Catbells Festival of Light

We have donated some raffle prizes in support of the Catbells Festival of Light which is being organized by Lakeland Mountain Guides.
Take a look below to find out what this event is all about….

On 25th April 2015 a devastating earthquake hit Nepal. Within 2 weeks a second quake struck. Over 7000 people were believed to have been killed, and many hundreds of thousands more had their lives turned upside down.

On Friday 5th June 2015 over 150 people scrambled to the summit of Blencathra, and descended by torchlight in order to raise funds for Community Action Nepal – a charity which targets remote places in Nepal, and has done for many years now. Between the support on the night, individual fundraising and many generous donations, over £5000 was raised.

Now the event has been and gone and Nepal has slipped off of the news radar, but one thing is for sure, the people of Nepal still need our help.

To keep Nepal in people’s minds, and to help raise more vital funds, Lakeland Mountain Guides will be hosting yet another fundraiser.

On the night of Saturday 23rd April 2016, almost one year on from the quake will be the Catbells Festival of Light. The aim of the evening is to light up the spine of Catbells with individuals at set distances apart, creating an awesome string of head torches. We will have photographers in strategic locations ready to snap the shot, which will subsequently be sold for the charity. Once this shot has been taken, those that wish to summit Catbells can, and a second photo will be taken of this congregation.
The meeting place will be outside the front of Cotswold Outdoor Keswick (Main St, Keswick, CA12 5JD) at 7:00pm on the evening of the event. We will once again host a raffle, do our welcomes and then make way through Portinscale to the base of Catbells (a 45 minute walk). As we are aiming to light up the spine of Catbells, there is no requirement for everyone to reach the summit; therefore this event is more inclusive to people of all ages and abilities. If you don’t want to walk far, then you can simply have a spot lower down the mountain!

Please bear in mind the night is likely to be a chilly one so you must come fully equipped, and if you are planning on heading for the summit, you must have the required fitness to do so. This event will once again be managed by a team of instructors / competent hillwalkers.

We are asking for a recommended donation of £20 per person Adult, and £10 per child to be made onto the Just Giving Page (https://www.justgiving.com/Catbells) in order to participate in this event. THIS IS NOT A TICKETED EVENT. PLEASE EITHER DONATE VIA THE JUST GIVING PAGE OR DONATE ON THE NIGHT in order to participate.

As previously stated, the finished picture will be available to order at donation figure yet to be decided.
Thanks again for your amazing support, we hope to see you on the night!

Raffle tickets will be available on the night for £1 per ticket. The prizes currently range from Dog Toys, Outdoor Clothing to a 3 Course meal for 4! If you are not able to attend the event but would like some raffle tickets then please drop us a private message.
