EDZ is 30 years Old – a brief history

EDZ is 30 years old

A brief history;

The company was started in 1995 by James after being made redundant from the construction industry.  Initially called ‘Mountain Fox’ the name was soon changed to EDZ as there were too many similar sounding brands.

EDZ came about as a name for headwear ie ‘eads.

These are the logos over the years, starting with the current one which was introduced in 2009, followed by the origional EDZ logo and then Mountain Fox

The first products were fleece jackets manufactured in Maryport with the biggest customer being an outdoor retailer in Hong Kong,  yes we were selling fleece jackets made in the UK to China!

The business was initially based in the Lake District but moved to Maryport in 2000, moving to our current premises in 2004.

Up until 2010 most sales were through retailers, today all sales are direct to customers through our web site and Amazon.

Between 2010 and 2017 EDZ had a retail shop in Keswick which is now located in our Maryport warehouse.

Merino wool base layers and accessories first appeared in EDZ’s range in the early 2000s. More merino products were added over time and eventually polyester and nylon fabrics were phased out around 2022 as in many respects wool offers better performance than synthetic fabrics and it is a natural fibre.

So a huge thank you to all of the customers who over the years have bought and continue to buy our products.
